About the HB-790 Recon

The Recon is Hingeback's purpose-built 17" trail wheel. We deliberately limited it to 17" sizing because that's what serious off-roaders actually run — 17" gives you the best tire selection in the all-terrain and mud-terrain categories, and the shorter sidewall-to-wheel ratio optimizes ride quality on rough trails. The multi-spoke tactical design features debossed Hingeback logos on each spoke and a flat face profile that sits flush with the tire sidewall. Desert Tan on the Recon is the wheel that got us the SEMA invite.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the Recon only available in 17"?

Because 17" is the best off-road tire size. Period. The major tire manufacturers put their best compounds and most aggressive tread patterns in 17". A 37x12.50R17 KO2 or KM3 is the gold standard for a reason. We built the Recon for people who prioritize trail performance over visual impact, and 17" is where that equation works best.

What's the difference between the 17x9 and 17x10 Recon?

The 17x10 is 1" wider, giving you a flatter tire profile on wider tires (37x13.50R17 or 38x13.50R17). The wider barrel also provides slightly more bead seat surface area. The 17x9 is better for 35" tires and offers more steering clearance. Most JL and Bronco builds go 17x9; HD truck builds go 17x10.

Will the Recon clear big brake kits?

The Recon's flat face and spoke geometry clears most aftermarket big brake kits including the popular Teraflex and EVO kits for JL/JK. The 17x9 with -18mm offset provides about 2mm more caliper clearance than the -25mm. Always measure your specific caliper before ordering — we publish a brake clearance diagram on our fitment page.
